The All-in podcast is quite a new addition to my listening list.
It's a well-made podcast, enjoyable to listen, and has a lot of good high-level business overview insights. Just take a look at the background of the guys who host the podcast: Chamath Palihapitiya, David Sacks, David Friedberg, and Jason Calacanis.
Some interesting notes from episode 115 about the AI search wars aka Google vs. Microsoft:
- ⏱ 36:05 one of the original textbooks that inspired how Google works were Introduction to Information Retrieval. It describes how to pull data from a static data set and rank that data to present the answer for a given question. Added to the reading list ✔️
- ⏱ 38:30 Google makes about 3$ per sponsored link click. With an average of 3% click-through rate, it means that for EACH search someone does on Google, the company gets somewhere around 5 cents. And on average a Google search costs 2.5 cents. On the other side, each Chat GPT result costs about 30 cents. Open AI is paying 3 million dollars per day to run Chat GPT.
- ⏱ 41:50 if Chat GPT is as foundational as Google search in 1999 why sell 49% of it for 10 billion dollars !? I've heard this question before and it kind of makes sense. Maybe the model is not a universal solution as presented 🤷♂️
- ⏱ 54:38 on average Google pays 17 cents per dollar to a publisher that uses Adsense. And this is one of the best offers a publisher can get.
And there are many other great points in the talk. Actually, the show has a full playlist of AI-related clips.
