[Js-Craft #42] Javascript serverless functions, paginate an array in React, and a hiking trip at Lake Geneva

Hi friends! It's Daniel here. The guy who maintains the Js-Craft website. Welcome to the 42nd edition of this newsletter.

I hope your past few weeks were fantastic! Mine was busy as I've started a new position as a Tech Lead. It was also fun as we got on a trip around the Geneva Lake. More on this later.

I've started a new articles series on an introduction to using vanilla Javascript with serverless functions. First two parts:

🏝️ Some non-coding things that I've enjoyed lately

Given that my wife is pregnant and she does not handle high temperatures with ease we decided to balance our workcation in Greece with a 5 days trip to Lake Geneva in Switzerland.

Initially, I was a bit skeptical but the long hikes around the lake and the Vaud vineyards are a delight. I could go for hours just looking at the scenery, chatting with my wife, and listening to podcasts.

Even got a bit of time to put together some articles for the site.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» Links from around the web

  • Does web performance affect your Google Search ranking? Is Lighthouse involved in evaluating the core web vitals? Can I be punished for a slow site? Harry Roberts tries to answer all these questions after digging into an endless list of docs on Google Search.
  • I’m reading a new book called Outlive by Peter Attia, which covers the four horsemen of chronic disease and death: heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and neurodegenerative disease (such as Alzheimer’s). A lot of great insight, a fantastic reminder that prevention is better than cure.
  • In his article, What Makes You Happy, Morgan Housel notes that happiness comes as a contrast between your latest experiences and reality. He also has a great podcast if you are interested.

πŸ›  A new tool that I've started to use

I've been a long-time user of Apple's Magic Mouse. But as I am an ergonomics fanatic, I've decided to replace my normal mouse with a vertical Logitech Lift mouse. So far I like it a lot. It keeps the hand in a more natural position and I don't get that tension in my thumb finder at the end of the day. Overall it's a perfect companion for my Dygma Raise split keyboard.

Well, that's all for today folks! Be smart, be kind, and enjoy the summertime!
